At the invitation of the Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, FAIL designed a participatory, site-specific, free art lab in a shopping mall. The focus lay on a critical examination of the mall as a social space and the relationship between art and consumption. A diverse spatial structure was created on the basis of research and exchanges with local residents. The “back room” equipped with 3000 LEDs invited people to retreat and hide away. The partially gilded store was given an artificial voice that encouraged experimentation.
Everyone could use it as a stage for activities and implement their own creative ideas. Radically honest and curious, the needs of the audience and the institution were explored and lovingly challenged.
